The English Tea Company Blog

When in the mood this is where the English Tea Company founder Gary Pepworth blogs about tea, running an online tea store, reminisces about running an English Tea Room in France and anything else that needs comes to mind.

Suspension of deliveries to EU.

Posted on

Since the UK left the EU (Brexit) there have been two main issues that have caused inconvenience and cost to both myself and my customers ordering tea to be received in an EU country

  1. Long delays in orders reaching their destination, due to increased customs clearing times.
  2. Customs charges and import duties being applied to orders.

On some occasions this has resulted in a customer refusing their order, leaving me to pick of the cost of paying the outward bound postage. As a small business I simply cannot affored to absorb these costs.

Therefore I am suspending delivery of tea orders to EU countries until further notice. No orders can be made on the website with an EU address as the destination. The only exception to this is that I will continue to supply longstanding customers, but they will need to place their order by email not using the website shop.

This is incredibly frustrating. When I set up the website, it was primarily to continue serving my loyal customers to my tearoom in France who were concerned about continuing to get their teas following my return to the UK.

I remain optimistic that this will be a short term measure and look forward to sending my tea parcels across the whole of Europe soon.
